Vol 6 No 22 - It Wasn't Supposed to be Sad

Over the past few days, I have been sensing an extreme case of sadness.  And, quite honestly, I am stunned that I am sensing sadness.  As Erin and I talked about it, I told her that I think my sadness stems from the fact that human history has been filled with people who are bound and determined to bring violence to many people for no apparent good reason.  Bin Laden is just one of the latest (and there have been others who have been committing unspeakable atrocities against their and other people in the decade since Bin Laden's crew did their thing the second time.

I have honestly thought that I would be elated when the news came that the man had been captured or killed.  Instead, I am just sad.  Sad that he and his crew made decisions over the previous two decades to commit the crimes they committed.  Sad that many men and women died through no fault of their own.  Sad that so many men and women (and especially their families) have made sacrifices of their lives and limbs in pursuit of those who have declared war on this country (formally or through their actions).

My hope and prayer is that there will be no more people like Bin Laden who commit these atrocious crimes.  History tells me otherwise.  How incredibly sad.

The good news is that God's work of reconciliation and redemption is done through the Risen Lord.  Many, many people are very excited that the United States just killed their most wanted, but that victory pales in comparison to Christ's victory over death, and our joy must mirror this reality.
